I.T. Support Technician / Field Support Engineer

We are looking for an enthusiastic and hardworking individual to assist our existing team of I.T. technicians to further grow and increase the company’s presence and expertise.  The position will cover various technologies and the chosen candidate will be required to solve customer support issues either remotely or onsite including provision of new hardware/software to meet customer requirements. 


Ripon, North Yorkshire with travel to clients in and around the Yorkshire area.

Reporting to

Technical Manager / Managing Director.

Areas of responsibility

PC / Apple Mac (Desktops & Laptops) – diagnose, troubleshoot, and fix Hardware and Software issues.  

Set up of new equipment both stand alone and on domain networks. 

Mobile Devices – diagnose, troubleshoot, set up, and fix portable devices – Apple/Android phones and tablets, Windows tablets.

Peripherals – diagnose, troubleshoot, install and set up devices such as printers, keyboards, mice, monitors, external storage devices (e.g. hard drives, USB memory).

Windows XP / Windows 7 / Windows 8.1 / Windows 10 operating system installation, setup, repair, recovery, and troubleshooting of system errors.

Basic Network setup and troubleshooting skills. 

Basic knowledge of ADSL, Fibre, Routers, Wi-Fi, and other standard internet equipment and connections.

Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Applications including Office 365 apps, setup, installation, troubleshooting and repair. 

Basic knowledge of cloud based systems including Amazon Web Services – not essential but advantageous. 

Knowledge of Microsoft Active Directory will be an advantage.

Windows Server operating systems 2008/2012/2019 including troubleshooting and setup of servers both physical and virtual. 

Ability to communicate and work with I.T engineers from other companies to assist setting up hardware/software for our clients.

General good knowledge of technology, I.T. devices and supporting/fixing/installing equipment. 

Candidates personal attributes

Driving license essential, access to own car not 100% essential as a company pool van can be provided. 

Ability to work independently and as part of a team is essential.

Good communication skills and good telephone manner. 

Good organizing skills.

Good timekeeper, essential to ensure punctuality to work daily, and for onsite/field appointments.

Good analytic and problem solving skills. 


GCSE grades C or above in 3 subjects – no specific subject required. 

Minimum 2 years experience in I.T. support, troubleshooting, setup, and installation – although full training will be provided. 

BTEC Diploma in I.T. – not required but beneficial.

GNVQ in I.T – Level Advanced – not required but beneficial.

CompTIA A+ certification – not required but beneficial.
